Tackling Homelessness

Tackling Homelessness in London - An essential one-day conference for housing professionals

On 11th February 2009, East Thames will be hosting a conference on tackling homelessness in London. This event is a must for anyone involved in tackling and preventing homelessness!
With London`s changing economic climate, it is more important than ever for the capital`s housing associations to engage effectively with local partners to tackle homelessness.

This essential conference will showcase best practice in preventing loss of tenure, re-settling homeless people and helping people break the no-home, no-job cycle for good. It aims to show what can be achieved through a range of approaches, as well as outlining regional policy-makers` visions for the future.

Topics being covered include:
  • Vision for London - meeting tomorrow`s challenges

  • Working together - best practice partnership initiatives

  • Integrated services - preventing worklessness and tackling poverty

  • Giving people a chance to succeed - helping people move from homelessness to independence
Why attend this event?

London`s population has soared in the past two decades - and is predicted to continue to rise. More than 60,000 households are in temporary accommodation in the capital and, in the current economic climate, mortgage arrears and repossessions are on the increase.

The Housing Corporation`s Tackling Homelessness Strategy outlines the need for better partnership working between housing associations, local authorities and other agencies in
tackling homelessness. It states that housing associations must work towards sustainable communities, make better use of stock, and develop effective allocations and tenant support
processes.

For just £70+VAT (or £120+VAT for two places), this conference offers housing professionals an invaluable opportunity to hear about the work of London housing associations and authorities in this field, exchange ideas and best practice, network, and hear from key policy makers.
Who should attend?

Professionals from RSLs and other organisations working to prevent homelessness in London, including:
  • Senior management and CEs

  • Housing, housing need and housing options personnel

  • Temporary housing managers

  • Family and tenancy support managers
